Sunit Bhalla, Certified Financial Planner™
Sunit Bhalla, CFP® is the principal at OakTree Financial Planning, a fee-only financial planning firm based in Fort Collins, Colorado. Sunit spent eighteen years working as an R&D project manager and software developer at Hewlett-Packard and Agilent Technologies prior to founding OakTree Financial Planning. Sunit is a Certified Financial Planner™ and received a Master of Science in Personal Financial Planning from the College for Financial Planning.
Sunit has presented to other financial advisors at national conferences and has been widely quoted in the press, including in the Wall Street Journal, Reuters, Kiplinger's, and Morningstar Advisor.
Sunit enjoys spending time with his wife, Janea, and their three kids—Brady (19), Kaitlyn (17), and Tyson (15). Sunit and Janea are avid runners and have run the Colorado Marathon three times.
Making An Impact
Sunit loves being a personal financial planner because it allows him to make a meaningful impact on his clients’ lives. He also has a passion to make an impact on the financial planning industry and the Northern Colorado community.
Sunit served on the national Board of Directors of the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors, an organization of more than 4,000 fee-only, fiduciary financial planners, from 2018 to 2021. Sunit also served on the NAPFA Leadership Development committee, the NAPFA Education committee, and the NAPFA Audit Committee. He led the Northern Colorado NAPFA Study Group from 2010 to 2018. In 2024, Sunit was awarded the NAPFA Inspiring Leader Award for his “long-term service to NAPFA and record of encouraging, motivating, and engaging others in reaching their full professional potential.”
Sunit has presented at national financial planning conferences more than ten times.
More locally, Sunit is currently a member of the Board of Directors at the Food Bank for Larimer County, which is an amazing organization that provides access to free and healthy food to anybody in the community who needs it.
Sunit volunteered more than 650 hours at McGraw Elementary when his kids attended school there. In 2016, Sunit gave a talk about giving to others at a Bohemian Foundation event.
